Tax residency question
Hi! I just wanted to ask for an expert opinion on tax residency in Sweden. I first moved to Sweden as a student in August 2022 and stayed here until January 2023, spending less than 6 months (at that time I did not know I would come back). During Aug-Dec 2022 I also worked part time remotely (as an employee) for a company based in my home country with taxes being paid in my home country.
Then in most of 2023, I was abroad (outside of Sweden, studying) - I then came back to Sweden at the end of December 2023 to finish my studies here and stayed here since then.
My understanding is that I did not have to declare any of my 2022-23 income in Sweden. Is that right? Would I be considered as a tax resident in Sweden for 2022 and 2023?

Hi,
My assessment is that the income you earned during the period Aug 2022 to Jan 2023 should not be taxed in Sweden. You are not a tax resident in Sweden during this period. First from December 2023 are you a tax resident in Sweden.
Kind regards
Daniel
